UAE Propagandizing for Lack of Proof: Mojtahedzadeh
"Iran should primarily prove its position by means of the existing documents," added Pirouz Mojtahedzadeh, in an exclusive interview with the English-language ****Iran Daily**** published Saturday.
He believed that the statements were issued by the PGCC because the tripartite committee was supposed to establish a direct dialogue with Tehran, which it failed to do.
Since Iran did not respond positively to Theottee's activities, they said what they wanted to, added Mojtahedzadeh, who is an expert on Persian Gulf issues.
He said, he does not understand why Iran should discuss its sovereignty over part of its territory with third parties, meaning Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar members of the committee, when the international norm is that, when such a dispute arises, the countries involved should hold direct talks.
In this light, it is therefore UAE, which is to blame, since it has had problems with this notion of direct talks, which Iran has proposed on "five" different occasions he accused.
It is because the UAE wants to get hold of the possession of other countries' lands, any way it can, added the analyst.
Considering that UAE officials twice ignored and rejected Iran's proposal of holding talks, once during "1992" and then again in "1996", he asked "Who should Iran talk to when the UAE resorts to ugly tactics."
Even in "1999" when Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi visited the UAE twice to hold direct talks, the UAE's Emir and foreign minister, preferred to leave the capital under the pretext that they were going "hunting", he added.
So who could have Iran's foreign minister talked to? He asked.
If the PGCC has therefore any real intentions of solving the problem, and then they should themselves pressure the UAE to begin the dialogue, he stressed.
